Children's Classes:
I have been asked if I teach kids. I do teach kids, and typically I have only taught truly exceptional children in private classes, accepting them on a case by case basis at this point.
In my classes we have FUN and make LOTS of cool stuff! The classes are driven by the child's wants and visions for what they would like to make. They are encouraged to bring their own design book or sketches to class! They will learn and be excited to show you all of the neat things they made come to life! But working with hot/sharp/noisy things is not for everyone.
I need to meet with your child before he or she can come for a class. As this art form has many sharp things and a machine that makes noise, as well as a very hot iron, and they must take direction and be well behaved in a area that has many grown up tools. Also, the proposed student needs to be well appointed with their tools to do so, including their own sewing machine (that meets certain requirements). This is very much like having your child in music classes and the investment you make when sending your child off to learn the flute or trumpet. Sewing class is not like making gimp bracelets at the local craft store. It is a serious art form that for quilting segment of the industry alone is worth 3.5 BILLION in 2012.
However, If you wish to have your child learn with me, I would like to "interview" your child before to be assured that they are as interested in this art as you would like them to be AND are present enough in the moment to make sure they are aware of the dangers of sewing. Please email me to discuss a time and date that we can meet.
PLEASE NOTE: Please pay attention to supply list given at the time of registration. No supplies are available for purchase in my studio.
